Introducing our Cheer Abilities programme · Season 14

CHEER ABILITIES.

Different strengths. One team. A new competitive cheerleading opportunity for disabled athletes at Notts Hotshots, Nottinghamshire.

July 2027 tryouts 2027/28 season Watnall Nottinghamshire
A new chapter at Hotshots

A place on the mat. A place on the team.

We're preparing to introduce a dedicated Cheer Abilities team at Notts Hotshots. Created for athletes with disabilities who meet the relevant Cheer Abilities division criteria, the programme will focus on teamwork, progression, confidence and the excitement of performing together.

There is no expectation to arrive with cheerleading experience. Our aim is to get to know every athlete and plan safe, appropriate opportunities for them to take part.

What we are building

Real cheerleading.
Built around the athlete.

Our first season will be shaped by the athletes who join us and the support each person needs.

01 / TEAM

Belong

Make connections, share achievements and be part of the Hotshots team environment.

02 / SKILLS

Progress

Explore adapted cheer motions, movement, dance, formations and suitable skills at an individual pace.

03 / PERFORMANCE

Perform

Work towards showcases and appropriate competition opportunities, subject to readiness and event eligibility.

Who can register interest?

Designed for eligible disabled athletes.

This is a dedicated Cheer Abilities team, not a unified division mixing disabled and non-disabled competitors. Athletes must meet the disability and age requirements of the division in which the team competes.

We welcome enquiries from families and athletes who think this could be the right pathway. Where eligibility is uncertain, we'll discuss it privately rather than asking anyone to share medical information through a public form.

The team age bracket and exact division for 2027/28 will be confirmed against the applicable SportCheer UK and event-organiser rules. Joining the interest list does not guarantee eligibility or a team place.

✓
Disability division eligibility

The team is intended exclusively for athletes whose disability meets the applicable competition division requirements. We will check this sensitively before any placement.

✓
Age eligibility

We will use the 2027/28 age grid and confirm the appropriate team age category. A date of birth helps us make the correct assessment.

✓
No cheer experience needed

The tryout will be an opportunity to meet the coaching team and explore suitable movement and cheer activities.

✓
Individual support considered

We will speak with athletes and families about communication, access, and relevant support needs before arranging participation.

Good to know

Your questions,
answered.

When are tryouts?

We are planning Cheer Abilities tryouts for July 2027. The specific day, time and format will be shared with our interest list once confirmed.

Is this team exclusively for disabled athletes?

Yes. This is being developed as a dedicated Cheer Abilities team for athletes who meet the relevant disability eligibility requirements. It is not planned as a unified team.

What ages can take part?

We will confirm the age range against the 2027/28 competition rules once available and the team's division is decided. Please provide the athlete's date of birth when registering interest so we can check accurately.

Does my child need to know how to tumble or stunt?

No previous cheer experience is needed to register interest. Suitable participation and activities will be assessed individually, with safety and accessibility at the centre of our planning.

Do we need to disclose a diagnosis now?

No. The interest form should collect only basic contact and age information. Our team can discuss eligibility and any relevant support requirements privately at the appropriate stage.

Will the team compete?

Our ambition is to offer showcases and suitable competition experiences. Event entries, divisions and dates will be confirmed once we know the team's makeup, readiness and eligibility.
