THERE'S A PLACE
TO START.
From baby's first sensory session to cheerleading, lyrical, jazz and hip-hop, there are plenty of ways to become part of Hotshots without joining a competitive team.
Find your way into Hotshots.
Notts Hotshots is home to competitive cheer and dance teams, but you don't have to compete to be part of our academy.
Our recreational and introductory classes give children and families somewhere to learn, develop confidence, make friends and discover what they enjoy without the commitment of an All-Star competition season.
Whether you've got a tiny explorer, someone desperate to try cheerleading or a child who can't stop dancing around the house, there's somewhere to begin.
That's exactly what these classes are for.
You don't need to know the terminology. You don't need previous experience. And you don't need to be ready to compete.
Where will you start?
Four different ways into the Hotshots community. Find the programme for your child's age and interests, then explore everything that class has to offer.
Hotshots Tots
Sensory, movement and play for the littlest members of our Hotshots family, with dedicated Tuesday daytime sessions from birth through to four years.
Cheer4Fun
A recreational introduction to cheerleading. Learn the fundamentals of the sport, develop confidence and make friends without joining a competition team.
Lyrical & Jazz
A welcoming introduction to two of our dance styles. Learn technique, musicality, movement and choreography while developing confidence as a dancer.
Hip-Hop
Big energy, music and movement. Our introductory Hip-Hop class gives dancers a fun way to learn foundations, choreography and performance skills without joining a competition team.
Which sounds like you?
You don't need to understand the world of cheer and dance before you arrive. Start with your child's age and what they enjoy, and we'll help with the rest.
Welcome to the competitive side of Hotshots.
Alongside our recreational classes, Notts Hotshots is home to competitive Cheer, Hip-Hop, Lyrical and Pom teams. These athletes train together throughout the season before representing Hotshots at competitions across the UK and, for selected teams, internationally.
Competitive Cheer
Team routines combining stunts, tumbling, jumps, dance and performance across different age groups and skill levels.
Competitive Hip-Hop
High-energy team routines built around musicality, choreography, synchronisation, performance and style.
Competitive Lyrical
Performance-focused routines combining technique, musical interpretation, choreography and expression.
Competitive Pom
Precision, technique, formations, synchronisation and performance brought together in competitive team routines.
Competition teams work differently.
Our recreational and introductory classes are designed to give new athletes a route into Hotshots during the year.
Competition teams are different. They are formed through our annual tryout process before each competitive season.
Tryouts aren't simply about choosing the most advanced athletes. They allow our coaching team to build balanced groups based on factors such as age, experience, skill level, positions, team requirements and the divisions we plan to enter.
Once those teams are formed, coaches begin building choreography, formations, transitions and, in cheer, stunt groups around the athletes on that team.
That is why our competitive teams are not normally available as classes that can simply be joined part-way through the season.
If you discover Hotshots after teams have already been formed, our introductory classes are a great way to start training now, get to know the academy and prepare for the next tryout period.
Why we use tryouts
Teams need to fit the appropriate age, level and competitive division.
Coaches consider the mix of skills, experience and roles needed across the whole team.
Routines and formations are created around the athletes selected for each team.
Competitive athletes commit to training, choreography and competition dates as part of their team.
Appropriate team placement helps coaches train athletes safely and build routines suitable for the group.
Start now. See where it takes you.
Joining a recreational class doesn't mean you ever have to compete. But if an athlete discovers that they want more, they'll already be learning, developing and getting to know Hotshots before the next tryout period.
Choose a class
Start with the recreational or introductory programme that's right for your age and interests.
Learn & develop
Build confidence, technique, skills and experience at your own pace.
Keep it recreational
Love your weekly class? Brilliant. There is no requirement to progress into competition.
Or attend tryouts
If competitive cheer or dance becomes the goal, register for our next annual tryouts.
