Our Lyrical & Jazz Introduction class gives children aged 7–14 the opportunity to discover two exciting styles of dance in a positive, supportive and fun environment.
Dancers learn the foundations of technique while developing flexibility, coordination, musicality, confidence and performance skills.
No previous dance experience is required. Whether your child already loves performing or is trying dance for the first time, our coaches will help them develop from their own starting point.
This class is part of the wider Notts Hotshots recreational class programme , giving children an accessible way to discover cheer and dance without immediately joining a competitive team.

Dancers experience both lyrical and jazz technique, giving them a varied introduction to dance while building transferable skills across both styles.
Lyrical
Combining dance technique with emotion and musical interpretation. Dancers learn to connect movement with music while developing lines, flexibility, control and expression.
Jazz
Energetic, sharp and full of personality. Jazz helps dancers develop strong technique, coordination, rhythm, performance quality and confidence.
Building confident dancers.
Classes combine technical development with creative movement and performance, helping dancers build skills they can carry throughout their dance journey.
Dance Technique
Foundations including posture, body placement, turns, leaps, jumps and controlled movement.
Flexibility
Progressive exercises designed to improve mobility, flexibility and strong dance lines.

Learning how to hear music, understand timing and connect movement to different sounds.

Building confidence, expression and the ability to perform choreography with personality.

This class is about enjoying dance first and foremost. For dancers who fall in love with performing, Notts Hotshots also has a competitive lyrical dance programme with teams training and performing throughout the season.

Here are some of the questions families often have before trying our beginner lyrical and jazz class in Kimberley.
Does my child need previous dance experience?
No. This is an introductory class designed to welcome children who are completely new to dance as well as those who may already have some experience.
What ages is the class for?
Our Lyrical & Jazz Introduction class is currently designed for children aged 7–14.
Where is the class held?
The class takes place at Kimberley Sports Centre in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire.
When is the class?
Lyrical & Jazz runs every Tuesday from 5:00pm until 5:45pm.
Can we try the class before joining?
Yes. New dancers can enquire about a free trial session so they can experience the class and meet the Hotshots coaching team before deciding whether to continue.
What is the difference between lyrical and jazz?
Lyrical combines technique, musicality, expression and storytelling, while jazz typically places more emphasis on energetic movement, rhythm, sharp technique and performance. This class introduces dancers to both styles.
Does my child have to compete?
No. This is a recreational introduction class. Dancers can simply enjoy their weekly training without joining a competition team.
Can this class lead to competitive dance?
It can. Dancers who develop a passion for lyrical can later explore the wider Notts Hotshots competitive lyrical programme and future team opportunities.
