Lyrical Dance In Nottingham

Technique, movement, emotion and storytelling come together through lyrical dance at Notts Hotshots — with pathways from beginner classes through to national and international competition.

The Style Explained

What Is Lyrical Dance?

Lyrical dance combines technical movement with musicality, expression and storytelling.

Dancers learn to connect movement with the meaning, emotion and dynamics of the music rather than simply performing a sequence of steps.

Lyrical choreography can incorporate elements of dance technique, flexibility, turns, leaps, floor work and expressive movement.

At Notts Hotshots, we want dancers to develop both the technical ability to perform a routine and the confidence to make an audience feel something when they watch it.

Technique Meets Emotion

More Than Learning Choreography

Lyrical dance asks athletes to understand how and why they move — not just remember what comes next.

Dancers learn to control their bodies, extend their lines, move through transitions and connect each section of a routine to the music.

As dancers become more confident, they learn to add expression, individuality and emotion to their performance.

Taking Performance To Competition

Competitive lyrical teams work throughout the season to develop choreography designed for the competition floor.

Dancers need to perform together with strong timing, technique and musicality while still communicating the emotion of the routine.

Competition creates a clear goal for athletes and gives dancers an opportunity to perform, grow in confidence and challenge themselves as part of a team.

From Nottingham To The World Stage

Lyrical Can Go International

Hotshots lyrical teams have earned major international opportunities, including bids to The Allstar World Championship and European Summit. For ambitious dancers, the journey can extend far beyond the UK competition floor.
