Front Walkover → Round-Off → Back Handspring
A Level 2 specialty-entry tumbling pass that combines three different movement demands. The Front Walkover must recover efficiently into the Round-Off, the Round-Off must convert forward momentum into a strong backwards rebound, and the Back Handspring must use that rebound without undercutting, twisting or losing straight-arm support.
Athletes should already own the Front Walkover, Round-Off and Back Handspring individually before the full specialty pass becomes a priority. This page does not provide hands-on spotting instructions. Physical assistance must come from appropriate practical coach education and remain within competence. Stop or regress for pain, significant fear, head-contact risk, repeated elbow collapse or uncontrolled direction.
What Is This Pass?
A Front Walkover specialty entry connected into a Round-Off and Back Handspring.
Skill one begins with controlled split mechanics and a sequential foot landing.
The athlete then reorganises quickly enough to create the Round-Off without multiple adjustment steps or losing forward direction.
The Round-Off has a completely different job: it must join the legs, block strongly, snap the feet down together and convert the pass into backward rebound.
The Back Handspring then uses that rebound to continue backwards through straight-arm support, active shoulders and a fast final snap-down.
Level 2 Specialty-Entry Pass
Front Walkover
Used as the specialty entry that increases the construction demand before the core Level 2 running pass.
Round-Off
The Round-Off converts the forward specialty entry into the backward direction required for the Handspring.
Back Handspring
Round-Off → Back Handspring(s) sits within the current Level 2 running Level Appropriate framework.

Clean Front Walkover
Independent, pain-free and able to finish without multiple recovery steps.

Feet together, predictable direction, strong shoulder block and useful snap-down.

Fast Trail-Leg Recovery
The rear leg returns efficiently after the Front Walkover so the Round-Off can begin from an organised position.
Round-Off Rebound
Athlete can demonstrate a controlled backwards rebound without needing the BHS to rescue the first skill.
Straight-Arm Endurance
Three skills create multiple hand-support contacts in a short period.
Core Connection Unreliable
If RO → BHS itself is inconsistent, adding a Front Walkover will normally magnify rather than solve the problem.
Pass Flow
Front Walkover → Round-Off
The Front Walkover must end in a position that allows the Round-Off to start deliberately rather than as a desperate recovery.
Control the Landing
The first walkover foot should accept the athlete without the knee collapsing or the body falling sideways.
Recover Quickly
A trailing leg that remains high behind the body delays the Round-Off and often creates an oversized preparation step.
Reorganise
The athlete needs enough postural control to move into the Round-Off without remaining folded forward.
Keep Moving Forward
The Walkover finish should preserve the line the Round-Off will use rather than drifting sideways.

The Round-Off Is the Engine Room
The Round-Off sits between two different directions. It receives forward movement from the Front Walkover and must deliver backward power into the Back Handspring.
Travel Into the Hands
The athlete should not shorten the Round-Off simply because it follows another skill.
Straight Support
Elbows remain straight while active shoulders support the turning phase.
Join Fast
The Round-Off must change from split entry mechanics into a strong two-foot snap-down.
Push Away
Active shoulder block helps convert the skill into a useful backwards rebound rather than a dead landing.
Round-Off → Back Handspring
This connection should remain technically identical in principle whether or not a Front Walkover came before it.
Diagnose the Pass Left → Right
In a three-skill pass, the visible error at the end may have started two skills earlier.
Check the Front Walkover
Is the first foot stable? Does the trailing leg recover? Does the athlete remain on line?
Check the Round-Off
Does the athlete still reach long, block actively, join the legs and create the usual rebound?
Then Check the BHS
Only once the incoming rebound is good should the coach assume the remaining fault belongs primarily to the Handspring.
Trace the Fault Backwards
BHS Undercuts
Check whether the Round-Off produced enough backward rebound. Then check whether the poor Round-Off started with an over-stretched FWO recovery.
BHS Twists
Check BHS hands, then Round-Off landing direction, then the athlete's hip and shoulder position as they recover from the Front Walkover.
BHS Goes Straight Up
Check whether the Round-Off rebound was lost because the athlete entered the Round-Off too close or too low after the Front Walkover.
Build the Pass in Sections
Equipment and any hands-on assistance must be chosen by appropriately trained coaches after assessing the athlete.
Athlete owns the complete skill and finish independently.
Strong reach, block, leg join and backwards rebound.
Core Level 2 connection is competition-ready before the specialty entry is added.
Athlete demonstrates first-foot control, fast trailing-leg recovery and predictable direction.
Build the first connection until the Round-Off retains its normal quality.
Check feet together, direction and Round-Off finishing position without hiding it with the BHS.
